Agave applanata 'Cream Spike' KOCH EX JACOBI 1864
Agave applanata has a very large distribution area in the Mexican states of Durango, Zacatecas, Chihuahua, Hidalgo, Mexico, Puebla, Veracruz, Querétaro, and Oaxaca. This large distribution area and the fact that applanata exhibits very large differences between juvenile and adult forms led to many different names in the past, all of which are now considered synonyms.
The variegated form of Agave applanata is also found in the trade under various names, such as Agave patonii Variegata or Agave parryi 'Cream Spike'. The classification as applanata only became established in recent years, after the first plants had grown out of their juvenile stage, but this fact has not yet been widely adopted by all retailers.
